About

Your guide

Your driver/guide, Jonathan, has been guiding visitors to Skye and the Small Isles since 2021 as a professional RIB skipper, running single-handed, guided wildlife trips in the Small Isles (Inner Hebrides) focusing on the folk history, geology, and wildlife in the richest ecological area of Scotland. Prior to this, Jonathan spent 6 years in the luxury yachting industry between the Caribbean, Mediterranean and Baltic Seas.

A keen naturalist who loves to share the joy of wildlife encounters with his guests, Jonathan’s lasting reward is to see folks moved by the beauty, magic, and fragility of nature.

You’ll be in safe, caring hands with a Scottish local who’s informed, researched and competent. And will ensure you’re looked after, receive value for money, and unforgettable memories on any of our trips.

…Loves music, whales and being out on the open water on fine days.

Why choose

 a driver guided tour?

Driving on the Isle of Skye is notoriously challenging. Speak to anyone who has visited Skye and they’ll be sure to tell you about the road network and driving.

Each year, approximately 650,000 tourists visit the Isle of Skye and utilize a road system designed to accommodate only that of its 11,000 resident population. This unprecedented pressure on the Isle of Skye’s road network, infrastructure and community creates some hazardous driving conditions. Roads which are already challenging to drive become congested, deteriorate and accidents can occur. The majority of Skye’s road network are narrow single-track roads and can be hair-raising drives at the best of times. Add to that weather, wildlife, a 60mph speed limit, and being in a new/foreign country can result in a stressful experience for even experienced drivers. Many visiting drivers sadly make mistakes.

Do yourself a favour, save yourself the hassle, and let your local operator, Caol Tours, do the driving.
