Booking policy
We are excited to welcome you! Our preparations for your arrival begin now: planning, researching, and building your personalised tour. To ensure your dates are locked in and the preparatory work can commence, we use the following straightforward policy.
- Securing Your Dates
To confirm your booking, we ask for a 25% deposit (e.g., £1,000 for a £4,000 tour) or payment in full. This allows us to start building your personalised itinerary, make 3rd-party bookings on your behalf, and secure your requested dates exclusively for you.
- Final Arrangements
To ensure every detail is perfectly in place for your arrival, the remaining balance (75%), if any, is due 30 days before your tour begins. We’ll send you a friendly reminder a few days before this date so it’s easy to manage.
- If Your Plans Change
We understand that life happens! If you need to cancel, here is how we handle refunds based on your notice period:
- 60+ Days’ Notice: While the deposit remains non-refundable to cover our initial planning, we are happy to hold the full 100% value as a credit for a future tour with us (valid for 24 months).
- 30–59 Days’ Notice: We retain the deposit to cover the extensive planning work and 3rd party reservations completed to date, but any other payments you’ve made toward the balance will be returned to you in full.
- Within 30 Days: At this stage, your tour is fully prepared and our arrangements are locked in, so we are unfortunately unable to offer a refund.
- Our “Peace of Mind” Promise
If you have to cancel at the last minute but we manage to find another guest to fill your specific dates, we will gladly refund your payment (minus a small £150 admin fee to cover our time).
- A Note on Travel Insurance
Because these tours are a significant investment, we always recommend taking out comprehensive travel insurance. It’s the best way to make sure you’re covered for any unexpected life events or occurrences which might cut short your trip.
Weather and conditions
The weather of Skye and the Scottish Highlands is infamous for being changeable and unpredictable. Seeing 4 seasons in one day, even in the heart of summer, is commonplace. This coastal/island environment can be warm and dry one minute, cold and wet the next. Skies can be grey and foreboding, followed by heavenly sunshine. Winds can reach over 100mph here and named storms during summer are becoming more frequent.
The northwest of Scotland benefits from higher than national average rainfall, which is why Skye and the HIghlands are so lush and green! Whilst rain might slow us down and make us soggy, for the most part it shouldn’t stop us. However, should weather and conditions impede our progress, we’ll find satisfactory alternatives to suit your needs. This might be taking shelter somewhere lovely and enjoying cocktails by a warm, crackling fireplace or exploring some indoors activities the area has to offer.
Nothing is more important to us than guest safety.
Canna Boat trip conditions
Of the 3/4/5 days of your tour, we’ll choose the best weather day we can for our trip to Canna and the Small Isles. Should winds average or reach a force 5 (25mph) for the duration of our trip, conditions will be considered intolerable, and for safety reasons the boat trip will not go ahead. The skipper always has the final say as to whether or not we go to sea.
Midges
Skye and the Highlands are infamous for their midges. A tiny, swarming, biting midge whose annoying bite is felt by some more than others and leaves a bumpy rash. They are an unavoidable part of the highland environment and will make you grateful that you aren’t camping! Present from late Spring to late Summer.
Insurance
All Caol Tours excursions are covered by specific tour guiding public liability insurance. And insured in carriage with hire and reward insurance.
Accomodation
We require guests taking accommodations in the Kyle/Broadford area, though we can be a wee bit flexible. Should you be struggling to find appropriate accommodations, let us know and we’ll do what we can to assist.
